Looking back along memory lane, it has been an odyssey of 35 years of eventful service for me in the portals of this great institution. I have seen Stella Maris School grow in stature and strength. I have truly witnessed the growth of my sisters who have grown to be persons of character, compassion, courage, commitment and conviction. They have been able to inspire, mould, educate and transform the young girls under their care and have helped them to face the challenges of today.
The service rendered by the sisters to the cause of the deprived section, especially to the Kannada Medium students, cannot be easily described. In fact this work which began as service to the needy in the true tradition of Christianity through self-sacrifice and self-denial, also created social awakening. It brought into focus the issues of social responsibility and social justice through compassion and change of attitudes guided by Christian philosophy.
I salute the tireless and dedicated band of pioneers, who first planted this seed, and watched it grow. The Superiors, Principals and Sisters who nurtured it while it spread its branches and sent its roots deep.
I salute them for the courage of their conviction, for refusing to compromise on values, for their vision and action of a meaningful education for young girls.
I salute them for their strength and determination which translated those dreams into reality.
As I thank and praise God for the opportunity given to me to work in collaboration with the Sisters of Charity, in the noble task of educating the young girls, I pray for His abundant blessings and guidance to help the sisters in working towards their goal of weaving those intricate patterns and enriching the skills of those who are entrusted in their care, so that they may become persons “Other-oriented” and “God-oriented”, and beacons of light in this world.
Mrs. Rosalind Joseph ,Stella Maris High School, Bangalore.
I have known the Sisters of Chariy for three decades being associated with them at the Aloysian Boys Home, Kotekar. It is a Rehabilitation Centre for delinquents and destitute where Jesuits and Sisters of Charity work together to give these children a home, education and a better future. The work has been going on very smoothly for the past 33 years and is an example how two organizations can work together for a common cause.
I have also seen their selfless, loving service at Prashanth Nivas, Olavinahalli, Nelliyady and Nirmala Hospital through which they give abandoned old people, physically and mentally sick, dignity and the surety that God still loves them.

I am overwhelmed with emotions and have a feeling of re-living my precious childhood as I pen these few lines. Beautiful memories flood my heart and soul and I am full of gratitude to all my teachers specially the sister-teachers who nurtured the hidden talents and abilities in me. Whatever I am today is because of them. Like in a movie film I can see and visualize all of them – Srs. Inez, Joan, Olive, Annette, Vincent, Cornelia, Raphael, Mother Celestina…. If I am given a chance, I have volumes to write about them, because each one of them was very unique and special in their approach and has contributed a lot to my life. There was so much of warmth and motherliness in them, necessary for the soul of a growing child.
I had been a teacher myself for almost 40years and when I retired as a Headmistress of Sheshadripuram High School, Bangalore three years ago, I realized that I was nothing but a replica of all my teachers’ good qualities, which were unknowingly deep rooted in me. The most precious part of life and formative years were spent in Capitanio School and I owe my success to my parents and all my teachers. My teachers are immortalized in me, in turn I will be immortalized in my students. A feeling of deep gratitude and fulfillment in life pervades my being whenever I think that I have listened to my inner voice to become a teacher. I humbly bow down at the lotus feet of my teachers and pray for them.

If anyone in Mangalore is asked, ‘what is the speciality of Fr. Mullers Hospital’ the most prompt answer would be, ‘nursing care’. The entire credit for the patient care given by the nurses of Fr. Muller Hospital goes to the dedicated training given by the religious sisters belonging to the order of the Sisters of Charity. Rev. Sr. Maria Therese, the one who started the school of nursing here in Fr. Mullers in the 1950s had laid a strong foundation of love, care and dedication in the nursing training which was nurtured by successive mentors from the Sisters of Charity. The legacy continues and the nurses trained by these sisters are known for their service not only in Fr.Mullers, but wherever they have gone. To give an example, when Shri Atal Bihari Vajapai, former prime minister of our country underwent joint replacement surgery at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai six of the eight nurses chosen for his care were the alumni of Fr. Muller School of Nursing.
The religious Sisters of Charity not only train the young nurses, they dedicate themselves to the service of the patients setting an example as to how a good nurse should be.

It’s my pleasure to speak about my acquaintance with the sisters of Charity. I have worked with them for about 27 years. I still remember the first day of joining the duty. It was a great day for me. Even though I was new to the field, sisters welcomed me in a very good manner.
Ever since 1986, it is my second home. I never felt that I am going to many work places. I always feel that I am at home and not at all in an office. The atmosphere of the centre is altogether different than the place where I worked before. It is a homely place; the sisters always treat the staff as their brothers and sisters.
Right from my childhood, I had an inclination to work for poor and needy people. It was fulfilled working with the Sisters of Charity. The love of Christ Jesus is shared with the people who come to the office in their various difficulties and needs. It is not the sympathy but the empathy that the sisters show is really wonderful. The people feel that they get mental peace while they meet the sisters. The sisters always try to keep the spirit of the Founders flowing.
All through these years I never felt that I was lost or left out. All the staff are treated equally with love and understanding. Though there was a little brushing of shoulders sometimes. It was always a happy and enriching experience working with the sisters. I am grateful to all the sisters who gave me the opportunity to work with them.
Mr. Victor Felix Vas, Social worker, Jeppoo.
The Mahabharata tells us that:
In 1981 I joined the family helper project run by the Sisters of Charity, Jeppoo. After that I continued to work in the social welfare unit which is now called Spandana Trust. In this organization I am working as a social worker since 32 years. First of all I am very grateful to Late Sr. Bartolomea who is no more with us and who gave me an opportunity to render my service in this organization. I also thank all the Superintendents and the colleagues with whom I worked with joy.
This is the best non-profit humanitarian organization I found. I have not only gained knowledge and skills but also it helped me to work with people with love, compassion and dedication. I gained a good experience at this organization. The faculty is very supportive, encouraging and loving. In many ways, this organization has helped me to grow in values and skills and I use them in my service towards the marginalized.
I am particularly impressed with the level of services provided by the Sisters of Charity and sincerely believe that in maintaining these standards would go a long way in motivating people to lead a better life. I thank the Spandana Trust and my special thanks to Sr. Sylvia the Superior and Sr. Evangeline and all the colleagues for their support in working hand in hand and for helping me to grow gracefully. This institution has helped me to blossom to the full and showed me the way to lead a respectful and dignified life.

I am Mrs. Shobha N.B counselor working at Jeevandhara Sevakendra as one of its staff. I am happy to be a partner and colleague of the institution. I have been in close touch with the Sisters of Charity from the last fourteen years. The life of the Sisters and their service to the poor and neglected of the society has inspired, motivated and strengthened me to give myself in the same field of social work. Their generosity, hard work and selfless service is to be highly appreciated. All can do the social work but to the slum dwellers, the neglected areas of the society only the sisters who are dedicated are able to reach out. We have a good family spirit between sisters and staff and they provide us with a healthy environment and safe working conditions. This makes us to render better service to all people without any distinction. I am proud to say that our Institution’s service are appreciated by all the departments and holds a prominent place in the Hassan taluk for its variety of services. I wish that our institution may grow like a healthy banyan tree spreading its services far and wide.
Shobha N.B., Counsellor, Jeevandhara - Hassan
First of all I would like to say that I am a well-wisher/Fan of the Society of sisters of Charity. I take this opportunity to appreciate them for their valuable and dedicated service in the field of education, Health, Social Work and giving motivation to increase faith of the people towards Christianity, active participation in the religious activity and humble prayer. I am grateful to them for their witness of compassion, love and prayer; committed service and generosity towards the poorest of the poor and exploited people especially women, children and aged people. So I wish them all the best and may Almighty Lord bless them abundantly for rendering the same committed and dedicated service to the poor and marginalized people of the society .
With love and best wishes
Mr. Vincy Sequeira, Coordianator, Chikmagalur Multipurpose Social Service Society (CMSSS)
I am indeed privileged to be a Mullerian and have almost spent precious years of my life with the Sisters of Charity. As a student of Fr. Muller School of Nursing and Fr. Muller College of Nursing, I have interacted with many sisters as they were my Tutors, Nursing Superintendents, Wards in-charge, Choir teachers etc. I am truly indebted to them for what I am today.
From the time of Fr. Muller, the Sisters of Charity have always seen to every minute detail in the institution. They have dedicated themselves to the institution with love, care and compassion with a motto of “heal and comfort”. This was really an inspiration for me in handling the toughest situations in the hospital in rendering service to the sick. Sisters have served the institution in various capacities such as in the Cafeteria, Medical Stores, General Stores, Leprosy Hospital in-charge, Operation theatres, Laboratory in-charge, Billing section, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation units etc.
I thank the Lord Almighty for having brought me to this mighty Institution where I could get guidance and support for my entire life. I cannot forget the love and affection which I received at Fr. Muller’s. In Konkani they are called ‘Mayamogachio Bhoini’ I still experience that same love even after 30 years.
